He has many honours to his credit as Justice of the Peace, Vice President, Fellow and later President Nigerian Academy of Letters and Commander of the Order of the Niger. His professional record includes Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Chairman Committee of Deans, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Acting Vice-Chancellor and later Vice-Chancellor and Chairman Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. He was visiting Professor to many Universities within and outside Nigeria. He was Chairman of several Advisory Committees and Governing Council of Institutions and Establishments. He was the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Port Harcourt and University of Ilorin. He was also Chairman Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Chairman Negotiating Committee Federal Government of Nigeria and the University Unions and Chairman Implementation Committee on Agreements between the Federal government and the University Unions. He has published many books. Several chapters in books and several articles in learned journals.
