AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY BOARD APPOINT TUNDE AFOLABI AS CHANCELLOR, RETAIN OLANIPEKUN AS GOVERNING COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

The Board of Trustees of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has announced the appointment of Chief Dr. Tunde Afolabi (MFR), as the new Chancellor of the University. Afolabi, a businessman with vast interest in oil exploration, is Chairman of AMNI International Petroleum Development Company. According to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo F. Asaju, the  Board, headed by Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, approved Dr. Afolabi’s appointment in  a meeting held last week.  He succeeds Most Rev. Dr. Peter Jasper Akinola, former Primate Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) who has served out his tenure as Chancellor of the University.

The Board also retained the legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, as Chairman of the Governing Council of the University. All members of the Governing Council were retained. The Board remarked that the University had experienced stability and tremendous infrastructural development under the watch of the current Governing Council. The appointments were sequel to the approval of the House of Bishops of the Supra West of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) who are Proprietors of the University.

The New Chancellor, Chief Tunde Afolabi (MFR) received his Bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1973 from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster Pennsylvania, United States of America, and M.Sc. in Geology, in 1975 from Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana, USA. He started his career with Texaco inc, New Orleans, in 1974, and continued with Mobil Inc Dallas, Texas in 1979. He is a member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists(AAPG),a past President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Exploration Companies (NAIPE). He was conferred with honorary Doctor of Science in Geology by Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, in 2017. Chief Afolabi is a committed member of the Anglican Communion, Philanthropist  and a benefactor of the University, having established the Josephus Foundation which gives awards scholarship to 25 students in the University every year.
