The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo and Bishop Theologian, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju, has advised the church to empower its lay people through exposing them to sound theology in order to avoid the prevalent tendency for them to stray from church to church on account of not being well-grounded. Professor Asaju made the comment when the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lagos Anglican Dioceses Bible College(LABICO) in order for the school to be affiliated to the University. The MOU will enable students of the College to undertake the Diploma in Theology program of Ajayi Crowther University.
The Vice-Chancellor said the College has the very crucial duty of bringing the bible closer to the laity because the church is largely dependent on the laity for funding. He said it was important that they were exposed to sound scriptural learning so that they will be well-grounded and not be carried away by every wind of doctrine.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University wants to help the church in improving the education of the priests and the laity which is why it has allowed many seminaries to be affiliated with it. He told the authorities of the college to ensure that it keeps to the contents of the Memorandum by keeping the high standard of the institution. In his response, the Rector of the College, Ven. Dr. Femi Fatile, promised that the College would not compromise on standards, and urged the University to see the College as its baby, thus providing guidance when necessary.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju and the University Registrar, Mrs. Adenike T.Fatogun signed for the University, while the Rector of the College, Ven. Dr. Femi Fatile and Registrar, Rev. Dr. Sunday Odineka signed for the College. Other members of Management of the University, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacob Adeniyi, were at the event which held at the Council Chambers of the University.
