Chief Dr. Olusegun Osunkeye – Representing Lagos Province
Chief Olusegun OSUNKEYE OFR, OON, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, London, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute of Directors U.K. and Nigeria, Fellow of the Society for Corporate Governance (Nigeria), and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management. He worked for Nestle Nigeria Plc for 27 years (1972 -1999) and was the MD/CEO from 1991 -1999, when he retired and was appointed Chairman of the Board of Nestle Nigeria.
With over 35 years Boardroom experience, Chief Osunkeye is also the Chairman of some other notable multinational and local companies such as Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc, Pilot Securities Limited, amongst others. He served as the Chairman of Director Development Committee of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria (2003 to 2009) and he was a facilitator at the Lagos Business School of Pan African University on Directing the Enterprise and Corporate Governance.
Chief Osunkeye served as a member of the Ten-year Strategic Planning Committee of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta where he was honoured with a Doctor of Science Degree (Honoris Causa) in Agriculture in 1998. He served as an external member of Senate of the University of Lagos, (2002-2007) and during his tenure, he was one of the prime movers in establishing the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Corporate Governance in the University. He was the first Chairman of its Management Committee.
Chief Osunkeye was the Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Nigeria for 12 years (1999 -2011) and represented Nigeria at the World Council of the ICC at the International Headquarters in Paris. He also represented Nigeria (from 1984 -1987) on the Board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) in London. The IASC was mandated to develop and issue, in the public interest, global accounting standards to be observed throughout the world. He is a Past Chairman of the Nigerian Accounting Standards Board, (now known as the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria), a Past President of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA).
Chief Osunkeye is a high ranking Chief from Abeokuta, where he holds the prestigious traditional Chieftaincy Title as the Babalaje of Egbaland; For outstanding services to the Accountancy profession he was honoured with the ICAN Merit Award in April 2003.
For his voluntary services as an Instructor, Consultant and Mentor, Chief Osunkeye was presented with the 2002 Outstanding Volunteer Award by the FATE Foundation, an NGO established to foster wealth creation by promoting business and entrepreneurial development among Nigerian youth.
Chief Osunkeye, devotes substantial time, talent and treasure to church and philanthropic activities.
In recognition of his significant contributions, through the private sector, to the industrial, commercial and agricultural development of the country, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye was first conferred with the National Honours Award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), in 2003. Additional National Honours followed in 2011. In recognition of his outstanding virtues and in appreciation of his services to our country, Nigeria, Chief Osunkeye was conferred with the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
