Philosophy

The philosophy of the Department of Economics is to produce graduates who will be able to provide proper solutions to societal problems. Furthermore, our programme is sufficiently adaptable to stimulate innovative students to become entrepreneurs after graduation rather then job seekers.

Objectives

Specifically the objectives of Economics Department would be to:

i. develop and improve student’s understanding of the social problems at various stages of development and the Nigerian society in particular;

iv. create an atmosphere for desirable behavioral changes which would help him to develop values that are in consonance with the national objectives such as hard work, probity, commitment, patriotism, and discipline.

v. to produce graduate with a broad professional out look rather than confining them to the world of economist alone; and

vi. with the above background, graduates of the economics will be able to fit in various fields of human endeavor both in the private and public sectors of the economy. In particular, the programs are such that the end product would serve as Administrative Personnel Officer, Policy Analysts, Information officers, External Affairs Officers, Bankers, Lecturers, Investment executives, etc.
