COUNCIL CHAIRMAN COMMISSIONS TEN PROJECTS ON CAMPUS
Chairman of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Chief Wole Olanipekun [SAN], has commissioned ten new projects on the campus. Commissioning of the projects coincided with a meeting of the Council on Wednesday September 6, 2017. He was accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor, members of the Governing Council and University Management.
The projects were the new Registry Building named after the pioneer Registrar of the institution Dr. Mrs. Josephine Oyebanji, University Health Services extension, Language laboratory, Shopping complex, ACU Ventures building, Ten Classrooms, Faculty of Education, Accounting building, Gymnasium and Ajayi Crowther University Water factory.
The Chairman of the Governing Council expressed happiness at the prudent management of funds and the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor which has given rise to tremendous development in the institution. All the projects were done through direct labour.
CONVOCATION TO HOLD ON 13TH OCTOBER, 2017
The 9th Convocation ceremony of Ajayi Crowther University will hold on Friday October 13th, 2017. The date was approved by the Governing Council in the meeting it held in the Council chambers of the university on Wednesday September 6, 2017. The event which previously held in November was changed to enable graduating students attend the event given that the previous dates coincides with the time grandaunts are called to camp for national youth service. The situations thus made many of them stay away from the event. The activities for this year will commence on October 6 and end with the convocation.
MANAGEMENT APPROVES ESTABLISHMENT OF AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY CONSULT
Management, at its meeting of August 21, 2017, approved the establishment of Ajayi Crowther University Consult. The unit is to offer Certificate, Diploma and Special Short Training Programmes in various courses in order to enhance the internally generated revenue of the University. Dr. B.O. Ibojo of the Department of Business Administration has been appointed Coordinator of the Unit. He is to liaise with the Deans and Heads of Departments to come up with special training programmes to be offered by the various departments. These programmes will run as part-time and weekend programmes.
STUDENTS RESUME SEPTEMBER 18, 2017
In readiness for resumption of returning students on September 18, 2017, Management has advised all Heads of Departments and the Works Department to ensure that the classrooms are tidy and ready for lectures. The Students’ Affairs Office is to ensure that the hostels are also ready for the students. The Vice- Chancellor has assigned the Registrar to oversee the conduct of the orientation programme for new students by the Students Affairs’ Office. Management also directed that all staffs who are on leave should report back on duty not less than one week before the resumption date in order to prepare for resumption of students. Heads of departments were also advised to begin the process of allocating courses to the lecturers and prepare for lectures before resumption.
ACU COOPERATIVE OFFICE TO BE RELOCATED
Management has approved the relocation of the current office space being used by the Cooperative Society to the adjoining rooms at ACU Ventures building. The University will use the current space for the Ajayi Crowther University Microfinance Bank which will start operations soon.
THE VICE-CHANCELLOR GIVES OUT HIS DAUGHTER IN MARRIAGE
It was a busy and happy weekend in Ajayi Crowther University on Friday August 25 and Saturday August 26, 2017, when the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju and his wife, Barrister (Mrs.) Harriet Asaju gave out their second daughter, Barrister Oluwafikayo Asaju in marriage to Dr. Micheal Olaoye Faleke. The engagement ceremony took place at the Wole and Lara Olanipekun Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge on Friday 25th while the wedding was held the next day at St. Andrew’s Chapel in the University after which the Reception for the wedding was held at the Law Auditorium. No less than one Archbishop, eleven bishops, several clergy men and dignitaries from all walks of life attended the event. The University rejoices with the families of Oba Asaju and Oba Faleke, both of Kogi state, on this joyous occasion.
VICE CHANCELLOR CONGRATULATES OKWEZUZU AND AKANBI
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Management of the University, has congratulated Dr. G.E. Okwezuzu of the Department of Business and Private Law and Dr. O.A. Akanbi of the Department of Earth Sciences on the award of their Ph. D degrees. Dr. Okwezuzu completed his Ph.D programme in Law at Delta State University, Abraka on July 6, 2017 while Dr. Akanbi completed his in Geology from the University of Ibadan on April 12, 2017. In congratulating them, the Vice-Chancellor enjoined them to continue to give their best to the University.
KWARA ECCLESIASTICAL DIOCESE TO HOLD RETREAT ON CAMPUS
The Kwara Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion will hold a 5-day retreat on campus commencing from September 11th to September 15th, 2017. About 500 people are expected to attend the event. The Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Rt. Rev. S.T.G Adewole, led a delegation of clergy to the Vice-Chancellor to inform him about the retreat. The Vice-Chancellor assured them that the University will avail them of facilities in the campus and that the University will do its best to ensure that the retreat was successful.
SACOBA LOSES SECRETARY GENERAL
The Secretary-General of the Saint Andrew’s College Old Boys Association (SACOBA) and former part-time lecturer in Ajayi Crowther University, Dr. Solomon Oladiti has passed on. The Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Bursar attended the commendation service held at St Peter’s Cathedral, Aremo, Ibadan on August 23rd, 2017, where the Vice-Chancellor delivered the Ajayi Crowther University Tribute to the bereaved family.
AJAYI CROWTHER VARSITY SIGNS MOU WITH OSUN STATE POLY, IREE
In furtherance to its Higher National Diploma [HND] Conversion Programme, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Osun State Polytechnic, Ire for the conversion of HND certificates offered by the Polytechnic to degrees. During the signing of the MOU, which took place at the Council Chambers of the University on Monday 28th August, 2017, the Vice Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju, said the polytechnic was well equipped to undertake the programme and promised that the University would put a mechanism in place to ensure close monitoring of the programme.
In his remarks, the Rector of the Institution, Dr. Jacob Agboola, said the collaboration will help prospective students to actualize their dreams of acquiring university degree. He assured that the institution would ensure that quality will be its watchword in implementing the programme. Management staff of both institutions attended the event. Osun State Polytechnic, Ire would be the third to sign the Memorandum of Understanding, after Ibadan Polytechnic and The Polytechnic, Ibarapa.
