Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, will confer honorary doctorate degrees on Chief Ernest Shonekan GCFR, former Head of Interim National Government and three others during the University’s 10th convocation scheduled to hold on Friday, October 19, 2018. Others to be honoured include Honourable Justice Babashola O. Ogunade, retired Justice of Ogun State High Court, Olola Olabode Ogunlana, and Nigeria’s first indigenous Managing Director of National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria [NICON] and Mr. Emmanuel Kampouris, an American citizen and Chairman, Board of Trustees of Global Anglican Future Conference [GAFCON]. The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this while briefing the press at the Senate Chamber on activities to mark the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the University. He said a total of 287 students will be conferred with Bachelor’s Degrees. These comprise 19 in First Class Honours, 102 in Second Class Upper Division, 133 in Second Class Lower Division and 33 in Third Class Division. Total of 339 postgraduate students are also being graduated at the convocation.
He stated that the academic records of the university has improved tremendously given the results obtained by students in recent times, stating that the University aims to graduate students who would do so well that none of them would end up with a Third Class Degree. He said the quality of teaching and learning has been in the upward spiral and the University would do well to keep the standard high. Answering a question on the employability of graduates of the institution, he said the entrepreneurship training given to students is so high that 80 percent of them are in a position to create jobs for themselves upon graduation. He disclosed that all academic programmes of the University have received full accreditation from National Universities Commission [NUC].
‘This Management would not relent in embarking on projects that will facilitate sound academic and moral developments in our graduates’ he said.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that development in the University was not limited to academics, given the completion of no less than 14 new projects in the University during the academic year under review. He thanked the Management and staff of the University for giving him support during the academic year and urged them not to relent in their effort to better the lot of the University.
