LAW EFFIGY UNVEILED AT LAW FACULTY IN HONOUR OF HARRIET ASAJU

The effigy representing Justice, generally known as Justicia, was unveiled yesterday at the Faculty of Law, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. The effigy, donated by pioneer students of the Faculty, was mounted in front of the Modupe and Folosunso Alakija Law Auditorium, in honour of Barrister Mrs. Harriet Dapo-Asaju, in appreciation of the role she played as Librarian of the Faculty who saw it through the accreditation process. Speaking at the event, Sir Moshe Amechi, a student in the Faculty, who was one of the prime movers of the project, commended Mrs. Asaju for the tremendous   role she played in ensuring that the Law Library was well stocked to the admiration and commendation of delegates from the  Council of Legal Education and National Universities Commission who came to the Faculty, at various times, for accreditation exercise. Amechi, who is a graduating student at the Faculty, said his classmates were happy to donate the effigy to the University because of the knowledge they have received from the hard-working staff of the Faculty of Law.

In her comment, Barrister Mrs.  Dapo-Asaju gave God glory for the achievements made in the law library, insisting that it could not have happened without the support of her husband, Rt. Rev, Professor Dapo F. Asaju, Vice-Chancellor of the University, whom she described as a pragmatic and visionary leader.

‘ I am happy that I am being celebrated in my lifetime. Nobody can receive anything except it be given to him by God. I thank God that this remarkable event is not a post humus one. I was in this University in 2011 to do my sabbatical in the TY Danjuma Library. There was no flower of any sort in that place at that time. Before I left, I brought some flowers and planted them. Today when I see those flowers, I feel happy. By doing this today, my name has been written on the positive side of this University. I thank you all for coming to celebrate me today. It is my prayer that you will all be celebrated in your lifetime’ Mrs Asaju said.

In his comment, Professor Agbonjimi, who represented the Dean of the Faculty of Law, said the effigy, known as Justicia, was an insignia of justice which was important in the frontage of the Faculty, as a sign of what it the Faculty represents. He also thanked Mrs Asaju for her role in bringing the Law Library to top-notch.

Later, the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju,   asked Barrister Mrs. Asaju to unveil the effigy.  He prayed that students who would graduate from the Faculty would hold their own in their various endeavours in life.

Among those who graced the occasion with their presence include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacob Adeniyi,    Registrar, Hon. Mrs Adenike T. Fatogun, Bursar, Pastor Samson Olojede, University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Fabunmi, members of staff of the Faculty of law, and other members of staff of the University who came to the frontage of Faculty of Law, where the effigy, better known as Justicia, is sited. Later, trees were planted by various officers in the University, in honour of Barrister Mrs. Dapo Harriet Asaju, who was also on the verge of celebrating her birthday, the next day being August 27, 2019.
