NEW GENERATION VARSITIES A BLESSING – PROF. IZEVBAYE

Professor Dan Izevbaye has described the emergence of new generation universities to be a blessing having renewed the three key recurrent issues in the administration of universities in Nigeria. He said this during the 2014 Convocation lecture delivered at AjayiCrowther University, Oyo, titled “Reconnecting with the Great Tradition: The Mission of New Generation Universities.

According to him, the three key recurrent issues in the administration of universities in Nigeria include: funding responsibility for regulation and supervision of universities, and the growing clamour of religious organizations to be allowed back into the business of providing education for Nigerians, traceable to the roots of the university system. This Ajayi Crowther University is providing.

He buttressed that, apart from Ajayi Crowther University’s commitment to its larger Nigerian environment and its response to the cultural and religious pressures of the environment, it has a history and a body of ideas to which it connects, conserves and nurtures within the universally recognized tradition of the university system which could be traced through the history of St. Andrews College, Oyo, the inspiration of Bishop Ajayi Crowther, the pre- colonial and colonial activities of the Anglican mission in Nigeria, as well as the inspiring example of the 600 year old university of St. Andrews, which shares the same foundation day with Ajayi Crowther University.

He also admonished the graduating students to use the skills and abilities acquired during their stay in the university to make a difference, bring honour to their Alma Mata and justify themselves before God by keeping their conscience completely clean.
