OLANIPEKUN GIVES RECIPE FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION

Renowned Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun, has reiterated an earlier statement that the fight against corruption should not just be a slogan, but should be a practical thing that produces results. Olanipekun, who is Chairman of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University Oyo, made the comment while commissioning projects in the University last Tuesday. He was full of encomiums for the Vice- Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju, for the high integrity   and pragmatic way he has ran the affairs of the University.  He repeated his call for the Federal and state governments to send delegations to the University to learn practical ways of fighting corruption.

‘I have said it before and I repeat it, that those who are mouthing anti-corruption crusade should take Professor Asaju as consultant. The way he has managed the finances of this university with utmost integrity, and has transformed the place with the provision of infrastructure even under stringent financial situation is worthy of emulation. Projects he has done here will cost at least five or ten times of what he has spent in other places, especially in federal and state establishments’ he said

 Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, who is chairman, Board of Trustees of the University and members of the University Governing Council, were on hand to commission the new office block complex of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, the University primary and secondary school, the new Faculty of Natural Science extension, Faculty of Social Sciences and two roads named after Professor Ayo Banjo and Chief Wole Onanipekun.

The entourage were shown round other new projects in the University, which include an 83-room guest house, named Shepherd’s Inn, new students Centre, newly tarred roads and several others. No less than 34 new buildings had been erected in the University under the watch of Professor Asaju as Vice-Chancellor.

When the entourage got to the 83-room guest house, chief Olanipekun was moved to repeat the comment he had made last year when he commissioned some projects in the University, that governments, at all levels, should consult Asaju on practical ways of fighting corruption. He entreated Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo to pray for Asaju for more grace consequent upon the good work he was doing in the University.

Later, at the meeting of Bishops of the Supra West Province of Church of Nigeria [Anglican Communion], proprietors of the University, in a meeting chaired by Archbishop Fape, the bishops thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the tremendous work he was doing in the University. At the meeting, the University also gave gifts to three retired Bishops, who had served as chairmen of proprietors, namely retired Archbishop S. Abe, Adebola Ademowo and Micheal Akinyemi for their roles in the development of the University. The University also appreciated the First Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor O.O. Akinkugbe.  The proprietors pledged to do all they can to complete the chapel they began in the University. The vice-Chancellor thanked them, and urged them to begin the search for his successor given that he has a little over a year to complete his tenure, but most speakers urged him to consider another five-year tenure on account of the good work he has done in the University.
