VC ASSURES AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY STAFF OF SALARIES
The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo F. Asaju, has assured staff of the University that, he would ensure that that the institution continued to pay their salaries in spite of the lockdown and restriction of movements occasioned by Corona virus pandemic. Professor Asaju gave the assurance during an online meeting of the University Senate hosted from his office. At the meeting, members of the University Senate, and other staff usually in attendance, joined from their respective homes in Lagos, Benin, Enugu, Ibadan and other parts of the country, where they had gone to be with their families following the decision of the University to shut down in compliance with the directive of the National Universities Commission(NUC)
The Vice-Chancellor told lecturers to continue to engage students through online lectures and assignments, in line with a previous decision of the University Senate prior to the closure of the University over the Corona virus, and lockdown of many states in the country. He enjoined the dons to ensure that students used the lockdown period to catch up on lost grounds in their studies on account of the sudden break. The University Librarian, on the prompting of the Vice-Chancellor, informed the Senate that the T.Y. Danjuma library in the University, has made materials available online for staff and students to continue their academic work in the face of the lockdown.
The Vice-Chancellor informed the Senate that work has reached an advanced stage on the 37 capital projects at two new campuses of the University. It would be recalled that foundation for new buildings had been laid, four months ago, at the University permanent site on Oyo-Ogbomoso road , and another campus at Awe, a community near Oyo. The Vice-Chancellor told the meeting that work had reached 90 percent completion on the projects. The buildings at the permanent site are to house the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Engineering, Vice-Chancellor’s office and those of other Principal Officers of the University as well as residential quarters for staff. The campus in Awe is to accommodate the University’s Faculty of Agriculture. He said the projects would have been completed before the lockdown ends. He also announced that two new guest houses are being added to the existing four on the current campus. All the guest houses were built under his watch as Vice-chancellor.
The University Senate also approved the unbundling of the Department of Communication and Media Studies as recommended by the National Universities Commission. In the first instance, the department would now be broken into the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Department of Broadcasting and Media Studies and Department of Public Relations and Advertising.
