CHURCH OF NIGERIA PRIMATE VISITS ACU, PRAYS AGAINST EVIL
Against the recent unpleasant developments, Primate of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Henry C. Ndukuba has paid a solidarity visit to Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, urging students and their parents to believe that God has checkmated the plans of the devil against the institution.
The plan of the devil, according to Most Rev. Ndukuba was “to completely destroy the University we have been labouring to build in the last 17 years with good reputation, were it not for God who checkmated the level of the disaster”
The Prelate who was accompanied by the Visitor to the university, Most Rev. Joseph Akinfenwa, Secretary to the House of Bishops in Nigeria, Rt. Revd Dr. Williams Aladekugbe and Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo among others, urged students and their parents to keep believing in the capacity of the university to offer sound education and moral training, pointing out that the university would come out stronger from the storms.
His words: “what has happened has made us wiser and stronger. I have been informed that the university management had decided to put in place certain measures that would prevent these kinds of ugly experiences. I know that the security of the students is going to be given more attention. One thing is certain, affliction shall not arise again”
While commending the university’s management for its creativity and courage in handling the situation, Most Rev. Ndukuba disclosed that the ugly developments rattled all the stakeholders of ACU because “this is an academic environment where such things were not expected to happen”.
The Primate who was led to the scene of the incident at Shepherd Inn later advised students to be their brother’s keepers, urging them to report any unusual development to the school management for solutions. “Instead of posting your observations or grievances on social media, report to the school management where there will be solutions. Social media will not offer any solution, rather, it will continue to soil our image. Therefore, don’t keep quiet when you observe anything that looks unusual”, he stated.
Most Rev. Ndukuba who later prayed for both the students and staff of the university assured that the Church of Nigeria would not stop praying for the success of the university, stressing that ACU by its records is a beautiful university that must be supported and protected.
Earlier in his welcome address, Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo had briefed the Primate how the two incidents of rape and beaten to death of a student on allegation of phone theft had rattled the council and the management team, leading to police involvement.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo who was on an official assignment as at the time of the visit was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Benjamin Olumuyiwa Popoola and other management team, including the Registrar, Dr. J. T. Babatola, University’s Bursar, Mr. Ayodele Olusanwo and the University’s Librarian, Dr. Bosede Adebimpe Ajiboye.
