A member of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Engr. Kunle Adebajo, has been inaugurated as the 21st National President of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN).
Engr. Adebajo was formally invested at a ceremony held at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, where he charged Nigerian engineers to look beyond immediate challenges and advocate policies capable of driving national transformation.
The colourful investiture ceremony was witnessed by key officials of Ajayi Crowther University, including the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo; Governing Council member, Wale Adegbite; the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, represented by her Deputy, Prof. Olumuyiwa Popoola; the University Librarian, Dr. Bosede Ajoboye; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ademola Akinwonmi; Director of Works, Engr. Dr. Ade Oluniyi; Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi; and Personal Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Idowu Ajinihi.
In his acceptance speech, the new ACEN President stated that every meaningful advancement, whether in construction, healthcare, energy, or technology, depends on the application of engineering to translate vision into reality.
“Engineers improve productivity, connectivity and quality of life. We cannot continue the way we are without moving forward; we must not relent,” he said.
He further noted that development and engineering are inseparable, as engineering drives growth, social integration, and sustainable progress.
According to him, Nigeria’s infrastructural deficit remains a major barrier to economic growth, with millions still lacking access to electricity and safe water despite the efforts of Nigerian engineers.
“The scale of the challenge demands not just budgetary allocations but innovation, integrity, and collaboration to bridge the gap. We must focus beyond immediate challenges and advocate policies that will ensure transformation. As consulting engineers, our responsibility is to bridge infrastructural gaps and ensure that projects meet global standards of safety,” he added.
Engr. Adebajo is a Registered and Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer with over four decades of professional practice, distinguished by technical excellence, ethical leadership, and service to the engineering profession in Nigeria and beyond.
He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ove Arup & Partners Nigeria Limited, a firm he has served since 1987 and which is part of the globally respected Arup practice.
He attended International School Ibadan and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (Technology) degree from the University of Wales in 1982. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Structural Steelwork from the University of London, as well as a Diploma of Imperial College (DIC) in 1986.
