SON Conducts Maiden Inspection of ACU Paint Production Line, Others

A team from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has paid a maiden inspection visit to Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, to evaluate the institution’s paint production line, detergents, insecticides and other products for potential certification.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Olukayode Binuyo, welcomed the team and noted that the university has continued to grow from strength to strength since its founding.
According to Prof. Oduwole, ACU has over the years ventured into several production lines, including NAFDAC-certified bread and water production, as part of strategic efforts to boost internally generated revenue.
“With a view to expanding our coast, ACU is venturing into other productions, such as paints, detergents, insecticides, and the likes,” she said, adding that products such as ACUtol are also among the university’s products.
She expressed optimism that after the team’s inspection, advice, and recommendations, the university would get certified during the second inspection visit.
In his presentation, the SON team leader, Mr. Abdulazeez Omeiza, gave a brief overview of the organisation’s mandate, stressing that every production must meet the specifications outlined in SON’s documentation.
Mr. Omeiza and his team were later taken on a facility tour of the production laboratory, guided by the ACU Products Coordinator, Prof. Olufunmi Adewoye, and her team members.
Speaking after the evaluation, Mr. Omeiza clarified that the team’s mission was not fault-finding or witch-hunting. “We are here to inspect, and after that, give feedback to the university on our observations and recommendations on where and what to improve on. We will return for a second inspection by next quarter. If the recommendations are implemented and the products meet SON’s standards, then the university will receive our recommendation for general public consumption and nationwide distribution.”
Also present at the visit were the Registrar, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun; the Bursar, Dr. Ayodele Olusanwo; the University Librarian, Dr. Bose Ajiboye; and the Director of Works and Services, Engr. Oluwole Olaniyi.
Others included Mrs. Olusola Olajumoke (SON Standard Officer), Mr. Pius Dada (SON Senior Officer), and other stakeholders from the ACU products team.
