Engineering Graduates Charged to Uphold Ethics, Embrace Emerging Technologies at 4th Induction Ceremony

The Faculty of Engineering, Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has inducted its graduate members for the 2025/2026 academic session into the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), marking a significant milestone in their transition from academic training to professional practice.

The 4th induction ceremony, which took place on Thursday, 18th June 2026, saw graduating students formally admitted into the prestigious professional body, symbolising their readiness to contribute meaningfully to national and global development through engineering innovation.

Delivering his address at the ceremony, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, ACU, Prof. Ademola Akinwonmi, described the induction as a pivotal moment in the students’ academic and professional journey. He noted that the ceremony represented not just the conclusion of rigorous academic training, but the beginning of formal entry into the noble profession of engineering.

 

He reminded the inductees that inheriting the profession meant embracing both its privileges and its responsibilities. And, also charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and continuous development, describing their induction into the Nigerian Society of Engineers as both an honour and a call to duty.

Addressing the evolving nature of the engineering profession, the Dean noted that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy systems, smart infrastructure, and the Internet of Things are redefining the engineering landscape.

He expressed confidence that the graduands had been equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with critical and strategic thinking philosophies necessary to enhance creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

The Dean also appreciated the Nigerian Society of Engineers for its continued partnership and commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers, acknowledging the body’s invaluable role in mentoring, regulating, and advancing the profession.

He extended gratitude to parents and guardians present at the ceremony, acknowledging their sacrifices, support, and unwavering belief in the graduating students.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Akinwonmi congratulated the inductees and reminded them that they now serve as ambassadors of the faculty, Ajayi Crowther University, and the engineering profession at large, with a charge to go forth, build, innovate, and lead with excellence.

The Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, Prof. Samson Ojoawo, addressed the theme of the induction, “Innovative and Sustainable Entrepreneurship: The Evolving Role of Engineers in Nation Building,” where he buttressed the need for the inductees to be worthy ambassadors of the engineering profession.

Also present at the ceremony were, Engr. Oluwaseun Adeniyi, Chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Oyo State branch as well as the Chairman, Ibadan branch, Engr. Ayokunnu Ojedele.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, distinguished guests, respected members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, esteemed colleagues, proud parents, and the graduating students.
