Class of 2026 Charged to Shine as ‘Triumphant Luminaries’ at Valedictory Service

The air at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, was thick with a mix of solemnity and celebration on Wednesday, 24th June, 2026, as the institution hosted a Valedictory Communion Service for its graduating class. The ceremony marked a spiritual send-off for the Class of 2026, dubbed the “Triumphant Luminaries,” as they prepared to step into the world beyond the university walls.

Presiding over the service, Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Titus Babatunde Olayinka delivered a stirring sermon that framed the graduation not merely as an academic achievement but as a divine commissioning. Describing the day as one of “Grace,” he cautioned the fresh graduates against taking their success for granted .

Drawing from the book of Colossians 2:15, the clergyman anchored his message on the spiritual victory available through Christ, a theme echoed in various analyses of the passage which describe Christ’s triumph over “powers and authorities” as a public spectacle of divine victory. Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Olayinka explained that the students’ ultimate triumph is not solely tied to their academic excellence but to the finished work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

“If you have Jesus with academic excellence, you will go far in life,” he charged, tasking the graduates to embody the characteristics of “Triumphant Luminaries.” This, he outlined, includes walking in the spirit of Christ, shining brightly wherever they go, positively influencing their generation, and avoiding the manifestation of the works of the devil.

His sermon, described as both educative and extensive, concluded with prayers for the new alumni to thrive and bear positive fruits that would make their parents proud.

In a gesture of appreciation, Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Olayinka thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, for the privilege to minister at the service, noting that he was humbled by the welcome accorded to him by the university management. Prof. Oduwole, the first female Vice-Chancellor of ACU, has been lauded for her transformative leadership since assuming office in October 2025 .

The event also featured the presentation of awards to the Vice-Chancellor and her management team by the leadership of the Ajayi Crowther University Students’ Assembly (ACUSA), alongside the university’s gift to the departing students, rounding off a day of spiritual reflection and recognition.

For the “Triumphant Luminaries,” the message of Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Olayinka was clear, they are to go forth as academic achievers fortified by spiritual conviction, ready to illuminate a world often shrouded in darkness.
