Accounting Student, Okubule Makes History
…Qualifies as Chartered Accountant Before Graduation
In a remarkable feat that underscores Ajayi Crowther University’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates, Abraham Okubule, a student in the Department of Accounting and Finance, has successfully qualified as a Chartered Accountant while still completing his undergraduate studies.
This achievement places him among an elite group of students who have attained this professional milestone before graduation.
Reacting to the feat, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, on behalf of the management, staff, and students of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, extended heartfelt congratulations to Okubule, describing his accomplishment as a testament to the university’s dedication to academic excellence.
The elated Okubule attributed his success to dedication, discipline, and hard work. He revealed that his parents had always desired that he become a Chartered Accountant before graduation, describing it as a motivation that fueled his commitment.
He credited the university for providing a conducive learning environment that supported his academic and professional growth.
This achievement follows the footsteps of past ACU students who have distinguished themselves in professional examinations. During the 15th convocation ceremony, four graduating students – Alaba Akinosun, Iberedem Ikwo, Peter Oluwalana, and Olatundun Afolabi – were celebrated for bagging first-class degrees in Accounting while also qualifying as Chartered Accountants. These alumni have set a precedent that current students like Okubule continue to build upon.
These and other achievements would not have been possible without the Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo led University Council, which has been instrumental in creating an enabling environment through proactive policies that encourage professional certifications. Their visionary leadership has ensured that ACU remains at the forefront of academic excellence in Nigeria.
The management’s support and proactiveness have also been crucial. Under the current administration, the university has maintained a strong partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), with the Vice-Chancellor recently expressing readiness to deepen this collaboration to provide more professional certification opportunities for students.
This achievement also aligns with one of the key agendas of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, to make ACU the most sought-after faith-based university in Nigeria, with academic matters as a top priority. This commitment is reflected in the university’s support for professional certifications alongside academic programmes.
Over the years, Ajayi Crowther University has distinguished itself as an institution where students attain not just academic excellence, but also entrepreneurship skills, soft skills, and additional certifications before graduation. This was reflected in the recent introduction of a pioneering triple certification programme, offering graduates a standard degree certificate, a Mind Education certificate, and an
Entrepreneurship Training certificate. This initiative ensures that ACU graduates are well-rounded individuals prepared for the complexities of the modern world.
Meanwhile, the resilient Head, Department of Accounting and Finance, Dr. Adesola Oluwatuyi, alongside the innovative and ever-supportive Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Ezekiel Adeleye, has been pivotal in sustaining the department’s reputation for producing chartered accountants. Their dedication to mentorship and academic excellence has created an environment where students like Okubule can thrive.
In a show of excitement and fulfillment, Abraham’s father, Mr. Omolara Okubule who could not hide his feelings sent a message to the Vice-Chancellor, saying, “This is the Lord’s doing and it’s marvellous in our eyes.” He further stated in his message that, “I have two sons graduating from Ajayi Crowther and the two are bound for 2:1 by the Grace of God. The older one is of Computer Science, all Glory to God,” the message concluded.
