Six ACU Students Shine, Inducted as Associate Accounting Technicians

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has once again solidified its standing as one of the leading higher institutions in Nigeria poised to produce cutting-edge, industry-ready students in the field of accounting and all other academic disciplines in its offerings.

This stance was underscored by the induction of six students from the university as Associate Accounting Technicians (AAT) at the just-concluded Accounting Technician Scheme West Africa (ATSWA) induction ceremony held at the ICAN Centre, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.

The newly inducted AATs are Adesewa Owoeye, Triumphant Babalola, TrustGod Ibeyen, Olaseeni Idowu-Abraham, Gosife Chidolue, and Goodness Soma Uzoechi. Additionally, Emmanuel Odeleye, an ATS 2 student from the university also received a special award as the Best Student in Public Sector Accounting (PSA).

The ATSWA programme, conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has been running at Ajayi Crowther University under the coordinatorship of the current Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, Dr. Mrs. Adesola Oluwatuyi, with support from Dr. Oluwaseyi Adedipe, then Head of the Department.

The university’s journey with ICAN began when the institution was approved as an examination centre under the leadership of former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo. The first ATSWA examination was held in September 2021, with 50 students from various departments, including Accounting and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Law, and Mass Communication, participating.

Since the programme commenced, 73 students have been inducted as Associate Accounting Technicians, while over 20 have progressed to become Chartered Accountants.

In a report announcing the feat recorded by the students, Dr. Oluwatuyi commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, for her unwavering support and commitment to the ICAN programme since assuming office.

It should be recalled that Abraham Okubule, who recently graduated from the Department of Accounting and Finance, was celebrated a few weeks ago for qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, following in the footsteps of past ACU students who have distinguished themselves in professional examinations.

The continued success of ACU students at the ATSWA and ICAN examinations reflects the university’s dedication to producing technically sound and ethically grounded accounting professionals.
