BISHOP ASAJU INSTALLS NEW CHAPLAIN IN AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY
The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo and Bishop Theologian Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Prof. Dapo F. Asaju has stated that the job of a pastor, with particular reference to the Chaplain of an institution such as Ajayi Crowther University, is a delicate one. He said anyone in such a position would not function well without the help of the Holy Spirit.
Bishop Asaju spoke while delivering the sermon yesterday at St. Andrew’s Chapel in the University, where Venerable Olalekan J. Onanuga was installed as the new Chaplain of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
Taking his text from Luke 4:16-19, Bishop Asaju said the Chaplain has the task of bringing the spiritual life of students and staff to a high standard. He reiterated the importance of spiritual growth, stating that academic brilliance without commensurate spiritual growth and moral rectitude was tantamount to incomplete development. He admonished the Chaplain to try and bring about a balance between the academic and spiritual lives of students, stating that young people require special treatment in order to make headway in impacting their spiritual lives.
Venerable Olalekan J. Onanuga was later installed as the new Chaplain of Ajayi Crowther University Oyo. Onanuga, who comes from the Diocese of Ekiti Kwara, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), will be in office for three years. The service was attended by Principal Officers of the University: Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacob Adeniyi, Registrar Mrs. Adenike T. Fatogun, Bursar, Pastor Samson Olojede, Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Fabunmi, Deputy Librarian, Barrister Mrs. Harriet Dapo-Asaju, members of the Chaplaincy Committee, other members of staff, and students. The new Chaplain takes over from Ven. Dr. Ayo Ogidiolu, who was Supervising Priest at the Chaplaincy for nine months, after the expiration of the tenure of Venerable Taiwo Olodude.
The new Chaplain will be assisted by Rev. Canon Oladipupo O. Oyinlade.
