Accounting Programme
The B.Sc. (Honours) Degree is Accounting is a four-year Programme that provides the graduate with a broad scientific and professional background towards a preparation of successful career in a variety of occupations as outlined in the Philosophy and Objectives, providing in the process a solid academic base upon which to build more advanced degrees (M.Sc. Ph.D) if so desired and as well be a Chartered Accountant. The department places much emphasis on both theoretical and practical approaches towards the realization of its objectives.
Entry Requirements
1. Students intending to major in Accounting must satisfy University and Faculty of Social and Management Sciences admission requirements. Such students must have had a minimum of five credits in WASCE, GCE or NECO at one sitting or six credits at not more than two sittings in subjects which include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, one social science subject and any other one.
2. For a direct entry, in addition to (1) above:
(i) Candidates must have passed at least two subjects in the G.C.E. ‘A’ Level which must include Accounting; OR
(ii) NCE with Distinction or Credit in Accounting and any othersubject OR
(iii) N.D. Certificate in Accounting/Accountancy with a minimum of Upper Credit OR
(iv) A Final Certificate of Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS or AAT), OR
(v) Foundation/Intermediate Examination passes of recognized Professional Accountancy Bodies, such as ICAN, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA, CIAEW etc.
Degree Requirements
To be eligible for a single honours B.Sc. degree in Accounting, a student must pass all the prescribed courses and obtain a minimum of 120 credits in
a 4-year degree programme. For 3-year programme the candidate must obtain a minimum of 90 credits.
Regulation On Course Selection
The department operates a course unit system in a 2-semester academic year for the B.Sc. Honours Degree. Students are required to take a list of approved courses and register for not below 15 credits and not more than 24 credits.
