Agric firm collaborates with ACU Seeds to assist farmers
The Jubaili Agricultural firm is set to collaborate with the Ajayi Crowther University Seed Company (ACU Seeds), Oyo State, to provide consultancy and products to farmers.
The move received a boost early this week when a team from the firm visited the school management.
The team led by Ali Majeed Sleima, an agricultural engineer who heads the Technical and Sales Unit, came to discuss terms of collaboration in rendering services to farmers.
At the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo, who welcomed the three-member team, disclosed that the university would be willing to collaborate with them in many ways.
‘’Our university farm is thriving, and we have a mini ranch, acres of cassava, nursery, and other things. We can get chemicals from you, and we can also embark on joint exhibitions,” the VC said.
He also mandated the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor W. Akambi and the Breeder in ACU Seeds Company, Dr. Moses Adebayo, to address the visitors and intimate them with the workings of the seed company and the faculty, in order to identify more areas of collaboration.
During the briefing, it was revealed that that ACU Seeds has unique maize, fortified with Vitamin A, which the university would launch into the market next month.
In addition, it was revealed that the company also has palm, horticultural and ornamental crops, revealing that it would soon go into production of singer and other crops.
In his response, Engr. Selma said his company has chemicals that can protect the plant even before the cultivation, stating that both firms would benefit from each other.
At the end, both firms agreed to hold joint exhibition before the beginning of planting seasons, to educate farmers what to do before starting a new farming season.
It would be recalled that the ACU SEEDS Company, which was set up in September 2022, was reputed as the first of such company to be established by any university in the Southern part of Nigeria.
