AJAYI CROWTHER PARTNERS FOREIGN EDUCATORS OF MIND EDUCATION

THE management of Ajayi Crowther University, (ACU), Oyo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a team of foreign educators which will commence teaching students Mind Education in the University.

The South Korea-based education experts, known as the International Youth Fellowship (IYF), were on the ACU campus on Friday, September 13, 2023, to perfect the MoU with the management of ACU. The team pointed out that Mind Education is the best way to minimize social vices among the youth.

The visit followed the attendance of ACU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Timothy Adebayo, at the 9th edition of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Education Forum in South Korea.

The IYF Education Forum is a platform for university vice-chancellors and education experts from around the world to come together to learn about the new world of education and share ideas. The fellowship was held between July 17th and 23rd, 2023.

Led by Pastor Jun Kyong Lee during the visit to ACU campus, the IYF team, which also had Pastor Juhan Jeony, Lee Kyeon and Pastor Ndobueze Robert as members, lamented what it described as rampaging social vices, including drug addiction and abuses, among the youths across the globe. It also regretted that many lives were being wasted on a regular basis on account of social vices, particularly through drug addiction.

Lee cited an example of a rich man in Cameroon, whose son became a drug addict, causing nightmares for the parents until IYF stepped in and worked on the mindset of the son, thus, restoring peace.

Lee, who explained that IYF had trained over 40 youths in Cameroon, hinted that the fellowship had signed an agreement with the Federal Ministry of Youth in Nigeria about its redemptive mission.

He said, “We teach morals through Mind Education. We have observed that most of the youths across the globe suffer from low education on the danger of drug abuse and other social vices. We, therefore, decided to step in and close the gap through our programme.”

He stated that with adequate education, most of the social vices affecting the youth will be resolved while insisting that “our mission is to change the negative mindset of the youth.”

Earlier, ACU-Vice Chancellor, Prof Adebayo, while welcoming the missionaries, told spoke told them the history of ACU right from when Ajayi Crowther was kidnapped in Isokun.

Prof Adebayo, who applauded the initiative of teaching Mind Education at the University, stated that ACU, with 11 faculties and 39 academic programmes, is a progressive university that is open to the developmental initiatives.

The VC, who later conducted the guests round the places of interest around the campus, including the burial site of the first missionaries, the Water Factory, and Crowther Hall, promised that his administration would do everything possible to ensure the success of the MOU.

Present at the occasion were the Dean of Post Graduate School and Chairman of all Deans, Prof Joel Olatunde Ayodabo, Prof. Ronke Ogunmakin of the Faculty of Education, and the Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Olusegun Ojo.
