Ajayi Crowther University earmarks N25m as research grant
The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, said the sum of N25m has been set aside as research grants for the teaching staff of the school.
While giving details of the grant, the university Vice-Chancellor, Prof Timothy Adebayo, said the amount was facilitated by the new chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Olutoyin Okeowo, adding that the initiative was established to expose the lecturers to ways of preparing proposals for local and international grants for research.
The VC added that the move would also help the school’s global rating.
He said, “One of our core mandates as scholars is research work. I am delighted to announce that the Governing Council chairman, Dr Okeowo, has graciously facilitated research grant worth N25m to encourage our academic staff in research activities.
“Scholars who do research work apart from routine classroom activities earn global rating or recognition, especially when the result of their findings have impact on humanity and the environment. They also become competitive in the education market. By extension, the university where they work have a share of the glory because they also earn global rating and recognition.”
The VC said that to prepare the staff for the research grant, a workshop was held where a resource person lectured the staff on how to write proposal for grant. He said each of the grant winner will get N1.5m, while also reeling out conditions that they are expected to fulfill.
“The university grant committee will receive their proposals and scrutinies it, only the ones found worthy of being sponsored will be considered for the grant.
Each if their proposals must state in detail research design, activities involved, expected significance, evaluation plan, dissemination plan, future plan and names of co-researchers.
“Each researcher is entitled to a single grant to ensure that the money goes round,” he stated.
