AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY GETS NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University has appointed Professor Timothy Abiodun Adebayo as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University. He takes over from Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo F. Asaju whose tenure expires on September 30, 2020. The Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) announced this to the press at the end of the Council Meeting held yesterday at the Offa Meta campus of the University. Adebayo, a professor of Agriculture, was former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), Ogbomosho. He will assume duty on October 2, 2020.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, of the University, said he had high expectations from the new Vice-Chancellor given that he will step into the huge shoes left by the out-going Vice-Chancellor. Chief Olanipekun said professor Asaju had done exceptionally well, so much so that anyone coming after him would have no choice than to keep the high standards Asaju had attained in the University, in terms of infrastructural and academic   development.

Members of the Council poured encomiums on Asaju, whom, they all agreed, had transformed the University beyond their expectations. Asaju met one campus when he assumed office in 2015, but is leaving after establishing three other campuses. He met four Faculties, but has established 8 new ones. He has facilitated the appointment of no less than 18 Professors, and built 100 new structures in the University in spite of scarce resources.  Asaju’s impact in the University, according to members of the Council, are innumerable. The Council members described him as a man with very high level of integrity, one who is driven by the vision to elevate the status of the University. Olanipekun, who was Chairman of the Governing Council of University of Ibadan, said he had worked with about four Vice-Chancellors in the past, stating that non was as exceptional as Asjau.

‘ You are different in many ways. You are spectacular. We appreciate you’ He told Asaju.

He told the in-coming Vice-Chancellor that he deliberately allowed members of the council to speak about Asaju to the hearing of the in-coming Vice- Chancellor’s,   for him to know the high expectations the council has of him.  He told the in-coming Vice-Chancellor that the University does not toy with spirituality, and advised him to ensure that the spiritual lives of the students remain high, given that the University is faith based.

Later,   Rt. Rev. Dr. Humphrey Olumakaiye ,  Anglican Bishop of Lagos Diocese of Church of Nigeria(Anglican Communion), prayed for the in-coming Vice-Chancellor, that God will help  him make a success of his new assignment.
