B.Sc Computer Science – Philosophy & Objective

Preamble

The Department of Physical Sciences hosts three (3) academic degree programmes viz:

a. B.Sc (Hons) degree in Computer Science
b. B.Sc (Hons) degree in Information and Communication Technology
c. B.Sc (Hons) degree in Physics with Electronics.

Philosophy

The B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Computer Science is conceived as a vehicle for serious academic learning and research geared towards development from theory to applications that will be beneficial to both the industry and government; a strong desire to achieve an enviable level of professionalism and entrepreneurship while maintaining good academic background germinating into a valuable industry- university relationship.

Objectives

The objectives of the degree programme include:
i. availing the students with sound knowledge of the theory of Computer Science.
ii. making curricula content up-to-date and relevant to the nation’s needs
iii. gearing the training towards production of specialists in Computer Science.
iv. producing excellent trainable graduates for further academic work.
v. creating in students the awareness of new developments in Computer Science with special interest in entrepreneurship.
vi. exposing the students to state-of-the-art technology and industrial practice through the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)
