CALL FOR PAPER FOOD SECURITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY A FESTSCHRIFT

In Honor of PROF. TIMOTHY ABIODUN ADEBAYO B.Sc (Hons), M.Sc (Ile-Ife), Ph.D, FCIA, FHSN
The Vice Chancellor

PREAMBLE

Ensuring sustainable food security remains a critical global hurdle particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) during the 21st century. The problem is aggravated by climate change and its attendant debilitating effects on the environment, agricultural production, and human well-being. Overcoming food insecurity is essential for achieving numerous sustainable development goals, including poverty, hunger, health, education, infrastructure, sustainable climate action, and ecosystem preservation. The quantity and quality of food available per capita in many developing countries of SSA have been a critical challenge. In SSA, the problem of food insecurity has worsened due to inefficiency resulting from outdated agricultural practices, inadequate technological adoption, and poor agricultural research outputs.

Certainly, the deployment of innovative technologies birthed by cutting-edge scientific research will lead to sustainable development that transacts agriculture but includes health, security, education, biophysics, geo-informatics, architecture, religion, and nuclear reactions, among other fields of study. In many developing countries, funding of cutting-edge research projects, which ought to be a critical component of public project financing, has been abysmally poor and, in some instances, non-existent, thereby making innovative technologies that are drivers of sustainable development a rarity. This is a challenge that needs to be addressed, especially in the 21st century.

The question this highly priced book seeks to address is how the aims of sustainable development, which focus on food security, innovative technologies, and good public policies among other things, could be achieved. Researchers and scholars are hereby requested to submit papers on the central themes to provide cutting-edge ideas on the roles that institutions, industries, research boards, government agencies, and policymakers can play in boosting food security for SSA.

The Festschrift is being organized by Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, to honor Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo, the Vice-Chancellor, whose research focus is on Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The book seeks to highlight the diverse dimensions of food security and sustainable development through a multidisciplinary approach while providing insight into innovative technologies for sustainable food security in SSA.
