MIND EDUCATION TRANSFORMING AJAYI CROWTHER VARSITY STUDENTS, SAYS VC
The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Professor Timothy Adebayo, has lauded the Mind Education programme, which has been integrated into the university’s curriculum, as a “highly impactful initiative” that is already yielding significant positive outcomes for its students.
Speaking after a three-day Mind Education Camp, spearheaded by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Ronke Ogunmakin, and supported by a team of Mind Educators from South Korea, Adebayo highlighted the programme’s global reach and proven track record.
This is contained in a statement issued by the university and sent to PUNCH Online on Thursday.
“Mind Education is a transformative initiative that enables young people to re-evaluate and rediscover values that are essential for unity and peaceful co-existence,” the Vice-Chancellor stated, emphasising its core mission.
He noted that while ACU adopted the programme two years ago, it has been active in South Korea since 2001 and is now making strides across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
In the statement, the ACU VC recounted his commitment to bringing the programme to ACU after attending an international education conference in Seoul, South Korea, in 2023.
At the conference, educators worldwide deliberated on the pivotal role of Mind Education in national development.
“I returned with the commitment to bring the programme to Ajayi Crowther University.
“I discussed the idea with Prof. Ogunmakin, who had also attended World Education Summit before, and with the university management.
“We agreed that, beyond developing the positive mental development of our students, Mind Education could play a significant role in promoting national values”, he added.
According to the VC, the university is already witnessing the tangible benefits of the programme.
“Mind Education has become so integral that it is now one of the three certificates awarded to students upon graduation, a testament to its perceived value and impact.
“I can confidently say that this programme has significantly improved the emotional intelligence of our students.
“They now show greater emotional control, patience, and resilience in their interactions. They have also demonstrated better decision-making skills and mental discipline,” Adebayo affirmed.
The ACU VC thanked the South Korean team for their unwavering commitment and continuous support to the university.
He also commended Ogunmakin for her dedication in coordinating the programme.
“The Korean team has been consistent in their support, regularly returning to train our students. Thanks to their collaboration with Prof. Ogunmakin, Mind Education has become one of the distinguishing features of our institution, setting our graduates apart in an increasingly complex world”, Adebayo concluded.
The university anticipates that the programme will continue to foster holistic development, preparing students not just academically but also emotionally and socially for future challenges.
