NEW COUNSELLOR URGES ACU STUDENTS AND STAFF TO BE AGENTS OF POSITIVE CHANGE
The newly appointed Counsellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Olusola, who also chairs the newly inaugurated University Counseling Committee, today, June 25, 2025 charged students and staff to be agents of positive change and true ambassadors of the institution wherever they find themselves.
Rt. Rev. Olusola, who is the Bishop of Ijesa North East Diocese, delivered the message during the University’s weekly Community Service held at Crowther Hall. In his sermon, he urged the university community to avoid actions that lead to sinful behaviour and instead strive to live transformed lives.
“You are in ACU for a purpose; you must make a positive impact,” he said. “Confess your sins, be transformed, and walk away from sin. The new generation (GenZ) is faced with many godless trends, but God says, ‘Be ye transformed.’”
Quoting an acronym WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?), Bishop Olusola challenged students to reflect on their daily choices, including how they behave, dress, and approach their academics.
“Would Jesus cheat in an exam? Would He dress indecently? As ambassadors of ACU, your conduct should reflect Christ. For our brothers, others may pierce their ears and wear earrings or embrace certain trends, but you are called to a higher standard; to transform your generation.”
He also encouraged students and staff to avoid the temptation of shortcuts and unethical behaviour, noting, “Some may say, ‘Why pray when I can hustle?’ But as ACU ambassadors, whether staff or student, we are called to live with the mind of Christ.”
He pointed out the true essence of worship, adding, “We give to God only when we worship Him with our praise. Other activities like offering and prayers are for us. Don’t settle for less, live your life for God because the top is your target.”
At the end of the service, Bishop Olusola formally inaugurated the new Counseling Committee. Members include:
