UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES
The University Health Centre is supervised by the Director – Dr, Aiyejumoh Jerry Babatunde, a full-fledged medical expert. The Centre took off as a Department with a humble beginning in a two-bedroom apartment on campus on 1st March 2006 with a Chief Nursing Officer (Mrs M.O. Ogunjinmi) as the Charge Nurse.
In April of the same year, Dr E.A. Ladele a Consultant Family Physician came on board as the Head of the Department along with two other members viz a Nursing Officer II (Mrs O.O. Olaniran) and a Health Attendant (Mrs S.A Busari).
Relocation of the UHS to its present site and structure (an eleven bedded Admission facility) took place in February 2009 with enhanced staff strength of ten members. As of February 2013, the current staff strength is fifteen.
The UHS gives a 24-hour service to the entire community of fully residential students and non-residential staff and dependants.
It has various units comprising, Nursing (headed by a Principal Nursing Officer – Mrs O.A. Adeyemo), Pharmacy, Records, Administrative/Secretarial, Transport (Ambulance) and the Medical Unit with our impending Medical Laboratory Unit for Laboratory services.
The UHS which is a Primary Health facility, headed by a Consultant Family & Public Health Physician, is saddled with Promotive/Preventive and Curative services to the entire University Community.
Appropriate referrals are made for cases requiring secondary or tertiary care. Our facility offers general outpatient and in-patient services coupled with Emergency coverage, which is made possible by 24-hour shift duties and Medical Doctors’ Call duties.
It is mandatory for all newly admitted students and staff members to undergo Entrance Medical Examination and Registration during which relevant health and social details about their general health status are obtained and documented, with appropriate Laboratory investigations done as well.
With the UHS ACU Essential Medicines list, appropriate and relevant drugs and other consumables are periodically complied and purchased to forestall “out-of-stock syndrome.”
Plans are already in place to accommodate the establishment of our Medical Laboratory Services to better the lot of the users of the facility. Consideration is also being given to the general face-lifting of the UHS to enhance and encourage better utilization of the Health Centre by all.
