Vice-Chancellor Tells Students to Focus on their Studies as Ajayi Crowther University Holds 17th Matriculation Ceremony
No less than 721 students were formally admitted into Ajayi Crowther University yesterday during the 17th Matriculation ceremony held at the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Law Auditorium in the University. At the well-attended event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo Adebayo, told the new students that the mission of Ajayi Crowther University is founded on two cardinal points-deep. Innovative intellectuality and spiritual edification. He said the University produces graduates that are intellectually and morally sophisticated. He reiterated that the University’s mantra of ‘raising godly intellectuals’ is a core value. He said from the first year, the students are exposed to both entrepreneurial education and vocational training in 17 different skills irrespective of their programme of study in other to prepare them to create jobs when they graduate. He enjoined the new students to give adequate attention to their studies and refuse to be distracted.
A major highlight of the event was the matriculation lecture titled ‘The Challenge of studentship in a University’ delivered by Dr. Victor Makanjuola of the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, and the University of Ibadan. In the lecture, he told the students some of the challenges that may assail them at this stage of their lives and how to overcome them. He admonished them to stay away from illicit drugs, which he said is ravaging many young people. He told them not to be in a haste to make permanent decisions that would affect their future, revealing that the part of the human brain for such decisions becomes fully developed when a person attains the age of 25 and above.
Later the Registrar of the University, Dr. J.E.T. Babatola, administered the matriculation oath to the students after they had been presented by the Deans of their various faculties.
Other Principal Officers of the University, namely Professor Benjamin Muyiwa Popoola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mr. John Ayodele Olusanwo (FCIA), University Bursar, and Dr. Beatrice Fabunmi, University Librarian were in attendance. Many parents were on hand to rejoice with their children on the occasion.
