ACU Clinic Set For Total Overhaul

The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of the University Health Centre.

The directive followed a series of inspection visits by the Vice-Chancellor to assess the facility’s readiness to adequately serve the growing University community.

During her first visit, Prof. Oduwole expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the centre and immediately directed the Works Department to address several issues she identified. These included the provision of new waste bins, replacement of toilet seats, repair of faulty electrical appliances and dangling cables, replacement of beddings and window blinds, installation of new fans, rechargeable lamps along the corridors, inverter-powered air conditioners, and a general clean-up of the facility’s surroundings.

She further instructed that additional cleaners be employed specifically for the clinic, separate from the general University cleaning staff.

Determined to ensure the clinic is well-equipped to deliver effective healthcare to staff and students, the Vice-Chancellor revisited the facility two days later, accompanied by medical facility upgrade consultant, Mr. David Oluborode, whom she commissioned to oversee the renovation.

In a subsequent meeting with clinic staff, led by the Medical Director, Dr. Amusan, Prof. Oduwole approved the immediate recruitment of additional personnel as requested by the Medical Director. She also directed that the clinic’s records department be fully digitised.

“Let’s do away with manual file-keeping when we can adopt a digital record system,” she said.

“This should be completed by the end of November. While the renovation is ongoing, you are to temporarily relocate to the old Establishment building. The Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, has already approved the facility upgrade, which includes oxygen supply and all essential medical equipment needed for the clinic to function optimally. Our duty is to care for all students and staff of this University, and that requires a functional medical centre.”

Prof. Oduwole further revealed that beyond the current upgrade, plans are underway to construct a modern hospital that will not only serve the entire University community but also function as a teaching hospital for future medical students.

On Monday, the Vice-Chancellor again visited the medical centre with a member of the Governing Council, Dr Oludamola Dada, who offered his thoughts on how best to go about the facility overhaul and drugs storage.
