ACU Commends Student for Outstanding Performance at FIG Conference

The Management of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has commended Oluwapelumi Aikomo, a 500-level student of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics, for her outstanding performance at the Federation of International Surveyors (FIG) 2026 Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa.

Aikomo represented both the University and Nigeria at the international gathering, where she presented a research paper before an audience of leading professionals and experts in surveying and geospatial science. Her presentation received widespread acclaim from participants and was a testament to the quality of research being undertaken by students of the institution.

Her paper, titled “Towards Improved Geodetic Modelling: Prediction of Gravity Values Using Artificial Neural Networks in Akure, Nigeria,” was co-authored with Elufisan Tomilola and Tata Herbert. The study explores the application of artificial intelligence to solving geophysical challenges, highlighting the increasing role of emerging technologies in geospatial research.

In a commendation letter dated June 1, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun, the University conveyed the congratulations of its Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students for her academic achievement and exemplary representation of the institution and the country.

The letter stated: “The Management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, writes to formally commend you for your outstanding academic accomplishment and excellent representation of the University and the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the prestigious Federation of International Surveyors (FIG) Conference 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.

“The University is highly delighted by your participation at the conference in a dual capacity as a representative of both Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo and Nigeria, where you presented a research paper before an international audience comprising renowned professionals and experts in surveying, geospatial science, and related disciplines.”

According to the commendation letter, Aikomo’s performance has further enhanced ACU’s visibility and reputation within the global academic community. The letter added: “Management notes with pride that your presentation attracted significant commendation from participants at the conference and was described as exceptional and reflective of high academic standards. This achievement has undoubtedly enhanced the visibility and reputation of Ajayi Crowther University within the international academic and research community.”

Aikomo’s participation in the conference was made possible through the FIG 2026 Student Support Funding Programme, an initiative designed to support students from developing countries in attending major international professional events. She was among a select group of beneficiaries drawn from different countries.
