ACU Governing Council Member, Kolawole Radiates Grace at 80

A member of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Prof. Gabriel Ayowole Kolawole, has expressed profound gratitude to God for granting him longevity, good health and peace as he marked his 80th birthday.

The celebration, held at his residence in Ibadan on Monday, February 16, 2026, was attended by a delegation from the University community. Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, was her deputy, Professor Olumuyiwa Popoola.

Also present were the University’s newly appointed Registrar, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun; the Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Bosede Ajiboye; the Chief of Staff in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Abayomi Oduntan; the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olufemi Atoyebi; the Vice-Chancellor’s Personal Assistant, Miss Refreshing Adeaga; the Personal Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Idowu Ajinihi; and Mr. Taiwo Adebayo from the Department of History.

In his remarks, the celebrant described his life as a testimony to God’s goodness and grace. He said he remains deeply thankful for the gift of life and the sound health he has enjoyed over the past 80 years, praying that such grace would be extended to others.

“I will never take God’s gift for granted,” he said. “There are countless blessings I have received in these 80 years. Many at this age face one health challenge or another and many depend on others for support. But God has been merciful to me and my family. I asked, and He granted. By His grace, I still go where I want and do what I choose. To Him be all the glory.”

Mr. Kolawole also expressed appreciation to the ACU delegation and the Vice-Chancellor for honoring him with their presence and gifts. As a gesture of gratitude for God’s faithfulness, he expressed his commitment to continued service to humanity.

He disclosed that at a point when he felt less inclined toward intensive reading and research, he decided to donate his personal collection of books and laboratory equipment for others to benefit from.

“Even if I am done using them, they are still valuable to others,” he said. “One day, I gathered them and gave them to those who still have need of the equipment and books, so they can continue the work of development.”

The quiet yet meaningful celebration reflected not only a milestone of age, but a life expressed through gratitude, service and grace.
