ACU Greenery Initiative Takes Off
Ajayi Crowther University’s commitment to a cleaner, more beautiful, and environmentally sustainable campus took a practical step forward today as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, officially launched the ACU Sustainable Landscape Management, Greening, and Beautification Project.
The Vice-Chancellor began the initiative with a visit to the University’s main gate, where she expressed her displeasure at the untidy state of the entrance and the conduct of some security personnel stationed there. She immediately ordered that certain items found within the gatehouse be confiscated and that seized clothing materials be disposed of.
Prof. Oduwole announced that the security gatehouse will be repainted before the upcoming November Convocation Ceremony, stating also that the image of the University begins at its entrance. She further directed that commercial motorcyclists using the frontage as a makeshift garage should be relocated and that all bushes and debris around the gate area be cleared without delay.
The University’s consultant on the beautification project, Mr. Femi Idowu of Moffry Consult, commenced work immediately, beginning with a training session for ACU gardeners. He explained that the project will feature parks, gardens, walkways, lawns, kerb installations, and tree planting, designed to transform the University’s landscape into a model of environmental aesthetics.
According to him, the planned parks will provide spaces for recreation and relaxation for both staff and students, contributing to a more conducive learning and social environment.
He said, “ACU should be a model campus that enhances learning, research, social wellbeing, and livelihood.”
Later in the day, Mr. Idowu made a formal presentation of the project plan to the Vice-Chancellor, alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Popoola; the Acting Registrar, Ven. Olusegun Ojo; and the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Bosede Ajiboye at the Council Chamber.
After the presentation, The Vc said that the initiative has kicked off and that it must be suatained. He called on all staff, irrespective of rank to contribute their quota to the change.
In his address, Prof Popoola said, “ The blowing wind of change in the University is surely for a positive change so that we can be ranked among the best universities in the world.”
