Bishop fulfills pledge, presents Motorcycles to Boost University Security

The Bishop of the Diocese of Oyo South, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Olufemi Familoni, has fulfilled his pledge to donate two motorcycles to Ajayi Crowther University to enhance security patrol operations on the campus.

Bishop Familoni had made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, on January 19, 2026, where he assured the University of the Diocese’s unlimited support for her administration, stressing the importance of sustained growth and development of the institution.

The two motorcycles were formally handed over to the University on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

While presenting the motorcycles to representatives of the two security outfits on Friday, February 6, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by her Deputy, Prof. Olumuyiwa Popoola, commended the Bishop for the thoughtful intervention.

She urged the beneficiaries to look beyond the donation itself and appreciate its strategic purpose, noting that effective security remains the foundation for peace and stability in any society.

Prof. Oduwole further drew out the critical role of adequate equipment in strengthening security operations and charged the security teams to make effective use of the motorcycles to redouble their efforts in safeguarding the University community.

Also present during presentation of the motorcycles were the Registrar, Dr Bode Rufus Olofinmuagun, the Librarian, Dr Bosede Ajiboye, Director of Works, Engineer Ade Oluniyi and Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Cornelius Ojo.

Olusegun Ojo, the Bursar, Dr Ayodele Olusanwo, and the University Librarian, Dr (Mrs) Bosede Ajiboye, noted that the University values the spiritual backing of the Church in addressing exuberance often associated with youth in tertiary institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted key initiatives undertaken since her assumption of office. These include the relocation of the Faculty of Agriculture to Kieseni in Aawe, partnerships with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) and other critical stakeholders to drive agricultural development, as well as plans for a webinar involving members of the family of Samuel Ajayi Crowther.According to her, the University is also collaborating with History departments in the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Olabisi Onabanjo University and Fourah Bay College, Freetown, Sierra Leone. She further disclosed plans to develop selected landmark facilities at Osoogun; Ajayi Crowther’s ancestral home, where the University also has a campus, into tourist centres.

“Those who wish to visit the tourist centres will be conveyed by the University. An Ajayi Crowther Research Centre will also be established soon. We have reached out to relevant individuals and institutions on this project. We have a lot in our plans and we need your prayers,” Prof. Oduwole said.
