Okeowo, VC Celebrate ACU Chancellor, Afolabi @ 75
The Chairman of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Chief (Dr) Olutoyin Okeowo, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, FNAL, joined thousands of well-wishers, family, and friends to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Chancellor of the University, Chief Tunde Afolabi, CON, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by her Deputy, Prof. Muyiwa Popoola; the University Bursar, Dr. Ayodele Olusanwo; the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olufemi Atoyebi; and her Personal Assistant, Miss Refreshing Ayomide Adeaga.
Chief Afolabi, the founder of the Josephus Foundation, has supported the education of numerous students in Ajayi Crowther University and other institutions across Nigeria through scholarships and endowments.
The thanksgiving service, held in his honour, attracted dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria, including Royal Fathers or their representatives, captains of industry, clergymen and community leaders. The homily centred on Chief Afolabi’s philanthropy, support for the work of God, and his lifelong commitment to uplifting others.
Though the service was intended to be solemn, the atmosphere soon turned jubilant as friends, associates, and worshippers rejoiced and danced in gratitude to God for the life and grace bestowed upon the celebrant.
The celebration continued at the reception in Victoria Island, Lagos, which took on a carnival-like atmosphere despite the heavy downpour which was described by one of the guest artistes as a “rain of joy” and a divine sign of God’s favour and promise of more fruitful years ahead for the celebrant.
With soul lifting music provided by Chike Praise, Yinka Alaseyori, and other renowned gospel artistes, the platinum jubilee celebrant and his family danced joyfully into the venue, joined by Prof. Oduwole and Chief Okeowo.
A major highlight of the event was the cutting of the giant birthday cake and the unveiling of a birthday banner presented to Chief Afolabi by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Oduwole, on behalf of the Proprietor, Visitor, Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Senate, and beneficiaries of the Josephus Foundation in Ajayi Crowther University.
