VC Visits Alaafin of Oyo

The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.

Prof. Oduwole was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muyiwa Popoola; Acting Registrar, Ven. Olusegun Ojo; University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) Bosede Ajiboye; Principal Assistant Registrar in the Vice-Chancellery, Mr. Abayomi Oduntan; Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olufemi Atoyebi; and her Personal Assistant, Miss Refreshing Ayomide Adeaga.

In her address to the Royal Father, the Vice-Chancellor expressed her delight at the ascension of Oba Owoade to the exalted throne of the Alaafin, noting that, like the monarch, she has strong ties with Canada and royalty.

She said, “I am aware that Kabiyesi lived in Canada before his coronation. I also visit Canada frequently and made inquiries about him. Everyone I spoke with described our Royal Father as pleasant, gracious, and admirable.

“It is also worthy of note that I am a daughter of Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, who spoke glowingly of Oba Owoade. I fondly recall that after my first degree many years ago, Bishop Ladigbolu graciously offered to sponsor my master’s degree. Furthermore, I am from a royal family.”

Prof. Oduwole announced her intention to honour the Alaafin by establishing an Institute of Governance in his name, similar to an initiative she pioneered in honour of the Akarigbo of Remo during her tenure as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

She also extended an invitation to the Alaafin to attend the 17th Convocation Ceremony of Ajayi Crowther University later in the month and pledged that qualified sons and daughters of Oyo would be given employment opportunities at ACU as vacancies arise. She also presented various gifts to the Oba.

In his response, Oba Owoade commended Prof. Oduwole’s leadership, stating that he had heard positive reports about her since she assumed office as Vice-Chancellor. He offered prayers for her, the University management team, and for the continued progress of Ajayi Crowther University.
